Join panelists Alyssa Hassan (Beacon Press), Ramsey Kaanan (PM Press), Gina Nutt (Terrazzo Editions) for a discussion of what it means to be an independent publisher and the state of indie presses.

Alyssa Hassan is the Associate Director of Marketing at Beacon Press. She has spent her 25+ year career working to uplift voices speaking out against injustices and to inspire change in the world. Before joining Beacon, she held marketing positions for other progressive, nonprofit organizations and publishers including South End Press, Z Magazine, and Dollars and Sense. If she ever writes a book, it will be called "It's uh-LEE-suh: A Memoir."

Ramsey Kaanan is a publisher and distributor of anarchist literature. In 1987, he founded AK Press, first as a distribution entity and later expanded into a small press. In 2007, he founded PM Press, where he remains the publisher.

Kanaan is one of the founders of the Bay Area Anarchist Book Fair and is a member of Bound Together Books in San Francisco, a collectively run anarchist bookstore. In the 1980s he was the singer of the Scottish anarcho-punk band Political Asylum.

Gina Nutt is the author of Night Rooms (Two Dollar Radio) and the publisher of Terrazzo Editions. Her writing has appeared in Forever, Joyland, The Rose Books Reader, and Southwest Review. She lives and dreams in Ithaca, New York.
