Join Project Censored, The Censored Press, and The Park Center for Independent Media (PCIM) at Autumn Leaves Books to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Project Censored. Founded in 1976, the organization's mission is to bring critical media literacy training to students and the public and fight overt and subtler forms of news censorship. Director Mickey Huff and Senior Manager of Engagement Mischa Geracoulis will be joined by Robin Andersen, author of the new book The Complicit Lens: US Media’s Coverage of Israel’s Genocide in Gaza, and Nolan Higdon, author of MagAcademy: How Corporatism Paved the Way for the Hostile Take Over of Higher Ed, to talk about the evolving state of media, journalism, and accountability.

Mickey Huff is the director of Project Censored and the president of the nonprofit Media Freedom Foundation. He also serves as the Distinguished Director of the Park Center for Independent Media and Professor of Journalism.  Since 2009, he has coedited the annual volume of the Censored book series with associate director Andy Lee Roth, published by Seven Stories Press in New York, and since 2021 with The Censored Press, the Project’s new publishing imprint. Huff is executive producer and co-host of The Project Censored Show, a weekly syndicated public affairs program he founded with former Project Censored director Peter Phillips in 2010. Eleanor Goldfield is his current co-host. The program originates from the historic studios of KPFA, Pacifica Radio, in Berkeley CA, and airs on more than 50 stations around the US and is also a podcast online.

Mischa Geracoulis is the Senior Manager of Engagement at Project Censored. She is a contributor to Project Censored’s “State of the Free Press” yearbook series and a Project Judge. Mischa serves on the editorial board of “The Markaz Review” and on committees with the Society of Professional Journalists and Human Rights Educators USA. She is the author of Media Framing and the Destruction of Cultural Heritage: News Narratives about Artsakh and Gaza (Routledge, 2025). She holds an MA in education and media studies, a BA in international development and MENA/SWANA studies, and certifications in restorative justice and solutions journalism.

Robin Andersen is professor emerita of media studies at Fordham University and an award-winning author of a dozen single- and co-authored books. Her work examines film, television, and media coverage of war, the environment, politics, and elections. She edits the Routledge Focus Book Series on Media and Humanitarian Action, serves as a Project Censored Judge, and contributes to the annual State of the Free Press. Andersen is on the Board of Directors of Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting (FAIR), where she also writes regularly, and is an Izzy Award Judge for the Park Center for Independent Media. Her writing has appeared in CounterPunch, LA Progressive, The Progressive, Salon, Common Dreams, and ScheerPost, among others.

Nolan Higdon is a author, lecturer at Merrill College and the Education Department at University of California, Santa Cruz, Project Censored National Judge, and founding member of the Critical Media Literacy Conference of the Americas. Higdon’s areas of concentration include critical AI literacy, podcasting, digital culture, news media history & propaganda, and critical media literacy.He is the co-author of The Media and Me: A Guide to Critical Media Literacy for Young People (Triangle Square / Seven Stories Press, 2022) and Surveillance Education Navigating the Conspicuous Absence of Privacy in Schools (Routledge, 2025).
